Job description

The Scientific Computing Center is the Information Technology Center of KIT.

In the project service state GitLab, which is funded by the Ministry of Science and Art and Art of the State of Baden-Württemberg, the service state bwGitLab is to be realized. The project is being carried out jointly by the University of Heidelberg and the KIT.

As a member of the operations team, your tasks will include the following:

  • Setting up, operating and continuously developing the system infrastructure for the state service
  • Technical integration of the GitLab service at KIT
  • Automation of system and configuration management
  • System analyses, optimizations and system monitoring
  • Implementation of updates and tests
  • Connection to the nationwide, centralized identity management (SAML, OIDC)
  • Documentation of the operating processes and environment
  • Advice for users, creation of training documents
  • Collaboration on scientific projects in the IT environment

As a Systems Engineer (m/f/d) you will use the latest technologies in an innovative and agile environment and appreciate conceptual tasks with freedom for initiative and creativity. Intensive communication and coordination with all partners involved in the project as well as within the KIT and at the SCC is of course a central requirement.

Personal qualification

Job requirements:

  • You hold an education IT specialist or bachelor degree IT, state-certified computer scientist and/or have many years of professional experience in the IT environment. If you do not have the required qualification you are also welcome as a career changer with a high affinity for IT and many years of professional experience in the IT environment are very welcome
  • Sound knowledge in the administration of Linux systems, as well as in automated configuration management with versioning (e.g. Git and Ansible) are required, as well as experience in the use of tools for system analysis and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Experience in the operation of GitLab systems/infrastructures is an advantage.
  • You have basic programming skills in at least one high-level programming language and one scripting language (e.g. Python, Bash and/or Java)
