Job description

The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) is intended to systematically develop, sustainably secure, and make accessible the data holdings of science and research. It is being established as a networked structure of consortia acting on their own initiative.

In NFDI-MatWerk, a reliable digital platform for the materials and nano sciences will be established, enabling the digital representation of materials data and specific metadata. Services for easy storage, share, search and analysis of data and metadata will be developed and made available to researchers. Furthermore, data from scientific groups distributed across Germany will be accessible via a knowledge graph-based infrastructure in such a way that fast and complex search queries and evaluations are possible.

In the department "Data Exploitation Methods" of the Scientific Computing Center (SCC), we develop innovative software solutions for an easy and user-friendly handling of research data for the NFDI.

Within NFDI-MatWerk you will:

  • bridge the gap between software developers for scientific research data and metadata management and materials science researchers
  • adapt the software, services and tools to the needs of materials science in an optimal way
  • create novel approaches to better analyze huge data collections
  • train and teach (guiding students)
  • publish and present your results in journals and at conferences

Personal qualification

Job requirements:

  • a university degree (Master) in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences or technology
  • possibly, a PhD
  • experience in the areas of software development and integration
  • desirably, you have experience in the field of technical data and metadata management
  • strategic, creative and goal-oriented thinking skills and a proactive approach to work, which you bring to a team that works in the same way
  • very good communication, presentation and publication skills in English language, possibly in German as well as
